Gladys Triana: A Path to Enlightenment (1971-2021)
Gladys Triana is a Cuban-born, New York-based, multi-disciplinary artist whose work rebels against authoritarian rule and the oppression of hegemonies. For decades her immersive installations, sculptures, drawings, and paintings reflected two axes around which her life turned, and her art was nourished: her condition of having lived since 1969 in exile from her native island, and her stubborn, continuous exploration of the ontology of women. Her more recent videos and photographs reveal her discovery of an abstract language for transcendence. Curated by the Aluna Curatorial Collective, this exhibition, running simultaneously at two venues, includes works from the 1970s to the present.
Gladys Triana es una artista multidisciplinaria nacida en Cuba y residente en Nueva York, cuya obra artística se opone a la autocracia y la opresión de las hegemonías. Durante décadas, sus instalaciones inmersivas, esculturas, dibujos y pinturas reflejaron dos ejes en torno a los cuales giró su vida y se nutrió su arte: su condición de haber vivido desde 1969 en el exilio de su isla natal, y su obstinada y continua exploración de la ontología de la mujer. Sus más recientes videos y fotografías creados en este milenio revelan el hallazgo de un lenguaje propio para la trascendencia. Comisariada por Aluna Curatorial Collective, esta exposición, que se celebra simultáneamente en dos sedes, incluye obras desde los años setenta hasta el presente.
